Thai Boxing

Known as the science of eight limbs (2 fists, 2 elbows, 2 knees and 2 feet), Muay Thai or Thai Boxing as it known by westerners, is the national sport and martial art of Thailand. This 3000 year old martial art combines devastating punching, elbow and knee strikes along with powerfull kicks to create an extremely effective system of stand up striking. But it's not all about the devastating kicks and other strikes. What really defines true, authentic Muay Thai from other stand up styles is the use of stand up grappling or "clinch work". Clinch work is the usage of grappling techniques to control an opponent whilst staying on the feet to allow the delivery of knees and elbows. It also includes a range of throws as well as how to fall to the ground or mat safely. All of this combined makes Thai Boxing an extremely efficient way to learn valuable self defence skills and achieve a fantastic level of fitness.

Muay Thai is widely recognised as the number one stand up style for full contact ring and now cage fighting. It forms the basis for many famous fighters including K1 legends Ernesto Hoost and Peter Aerts as well as K1 Max superstars Masato and Buakaw, along with a host of others over the years. Many fighters from other disciplines have travelled to Thailand over the years to try and beat the Thais at their own game but have come away with limited success. To beat a Thai boxer, you need to be a Thai boxer!

At the Sitnarong Thai Boxing club, you can have the opportunity to learn authentic Muay Thai (not kickboxing) from highly qualified instructors with years of ring fighting and teaching experience. Sitnarong Muay Thai is part of the Sitnarong International Muay Thai Association (S.I.M.T.A.). Based in Stockport  England, S.I.M.T.A. was founded by Grand Master Sken in 1977 when he left Thailand after an undefeated ring career. Grand Master Sken is recognised as one of the world authorities on Muay Thai and is highly sort after as both a trainer and a promoter of Muay Thai. We recognise that not everybody wants to participate in competition hence the general classes are geared towards those wanting to train for fitness, general skill and self defence. There is also a grading syllabus available. For those wanting full contact ring competition, the club has a proud record and exacting standards but we welcome the opportunity to train the dedicated student for the ring.
